S.O.S. Music Fest

7 Local Musical Acts, 2 Bars, 1 Community for 1 Cause: SAVE OUR SOUTHSIDE (S.O.S.)! In light of the recent violence occurring in downtown Frederick, local community friends are forging together to declare, “Enough is Enough!” We want our streets safe…and we want the sou…thside safe! We want to bring back the livelihood in a part of town that once flourished, on a street we market as a highlight of our city…MARKET STREET!

For this special event, All Musical Acts are donating their talent!! Make N Music is donating their sound equipment. FACKA is donating their time and resources. The Greene Turtle & The Canal Bar & Grill are donating a portion of their proceeds. Others are joining board…stay tuned!!

FOR WHAT??? Security Cameras & Improved Lighting Along the Alley of Citizen’s Way & Surrounding Areas. WHY??? To aid in deterring crime.

Hollywood comes to Frederick…

…and we don’t think it’ll be the last time.

Filming begins this week in and around Frederick for the feature length film, Elf-Man. According to Carl Glorioso of the Frederick Film Office, “We begin filming this Monday in Frederick and around the county”.  ”We’ve been running crazy for the last few days to make sure everything is ready for the shoot”.

In this holiday film due to be released at the end of 2012, an Elf is left behind by Santa to help rescue the Harper family from a lousy Christmas. The Elf and the family get more than bargained for, as the kids help the Elf discover his special powers and true identity as superhero ELF-MAN. Together they defeat a gang of bumbling thieves determined to steal the dad’s new invention.

Principal filming is expected to last about three weeks, so that means we will have some out of town visitors shopping in our stores, eating in our restaurants, and enjoying the entertainment and arts scene in Frederick. Let’s make sure all of our guests feel welcome and show them what a great town we have.

And lets applaud the efforts of the Frederick Film office for their hard work in promoting Frederick as a viable location for film production. Frederick has much to offer for local and out of town film production companies, and there are certainly plans to grow this industry throughout the area.

So what the DTF?! Well, we are not really reality tv watchers, so when we added the ‘DTF’ Downtown Frederick design, it was really because we’ve been using it in slang for texting/facebook, etc for a while. “Hey what’s going on in DTF tonight”. Imagine our shock and amusement when we were let in on the joke. So what are we going to do about it? Nothing. If you buy it for the naughty reason, great, if you buy it for Downtown Frederick, great too.

What’s Your Story: The Knolly Moles

Aside from some busted ass cars on Market St. messing with the audio, we had a great chat with the band about alot of things. All or none of your questions about the band may be answered, however, one thing is clear that this band is on the move and we’re glad for the chance to spend a few minutes with them.

Cankles, Rolled Ankles, and Knolly Moles!

Once again, it is time for the ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event this Saturday October 1st. Men, and women, but mostly men, get to strut their stuff through downtown Frederick in some super sexy womens shoes. Walkers will receive a Walk a Mile t-shirt and race bag. Awesome prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers at the post walk awards party at Bushwaller’s. Women and children are also invited to walk and fundraise, but feel free to wear your comfortable shoes! The event is scheduled for 1-4PM, and registration can be done online, or at the Carroll Creek Pavillion beginning at 11AM. For more info about the event or Heartly House, click here.

Once you complete the walk, drag your blistered feet up to Vibrant Artwear at Market & 3rd. The Knolly Moles will be jamming streetside from 5-9PM, and we will be interviewing them for an upcoming piece. Never heard em? Check out some vid…well the vid is pretty bad, but the sound is decent.

Back In The Day

So, before the myspaces, facebooks, twitters, twatters, and google plusses, there was frednecks.com. We started around 2003 and quickly became the main source for entertainment news and events in Frederick. We started the FRNX merchandise line and to this day, some are seen in near and far away places. We have produced live shows, worked with many charities and always had a blast bringing the Frederick social scene together. Want proof? Here is a little pictoral walk down memory lane. The faces have not been covered to protect the innocent. So if you see yourself in here, you should (should) remember… and if you don’t like how you look in the picture, too bad, you agreed at the time to be in it. Enjoy!!

OPEN FOR BUSINESS! (again)

Well, since no one asked, and we felt that there is still no single good source to find out all of the music and live events in town, we have once again taken to the internets to bring you all the info on live music, events, nightlife, social events and media. We’ll be clickin and clackin to get things up over the next month, so check back like it was an STD test. In the mean time, please support the cause by buying every product seen here in multiples. Hey, it’s not cheap running around town all the time racking up bar tabs.

And if you are a creative sort, or want to submit an event, music, a shop opening, etc., just contact us at least two weeks ahead of time and we’ll try to get you some words. Word.
